SHOOTLOGGER (0-00-05-24).png

What is it?

As an editor I very often receive hand-written notes on coffee stained pieces of paper after a film shoot along with the rushes. Many times these are not so easy to read, full of scribbles and mistakes, so I created a mobile app that makes this job a little bit cleaner. I found many apps helping you create shot lists and storyboards, but I didn't find any that helps you log the actual shoot itself.
ShootLogger is a streamlined mobile application designed for filmmakers, commercial directors, and production teams to efficiently log takes and record notes during film and commercial shoots which can be sent to the editor right away as a clean looking PDF. With an intuitive user interface, ShootLogger simplifies the process of capturing critical information for each take, ensuring that all notes, including the director's and client's feedback, are accurately documented and organized.

ShootLogger App

Key features

Simple, Intuitive Interface: Designed with ease of use in mind, ShootLogger’s clean and straightforward UI allows users to quickly log takes and add notes with minimal disruption during shoots.

Real-Time Note Logging: Capture detailed notes for each take, including director's and client's feedback, ensuring that no detail is overlooked.

Scene/Shot Organization: Easily organize and categorize notes by scene and shot, making it effortless to track progress and review feedback. Swipe left or right to delete or edit scenes.

PDF Export: Convert all logged notes and takes into a neatly formatted PDF file with a single tap. The PDF can be instantly shared with editors straight away after each day of the shoot, ensuring a smooth transition from shoot to post-production in a completely paperless way.

Benefits

Enhanced Efficiency: By automating the note-taking process and organizing takes by scene/shot, ShootLogger reduces the time spent on administrative tasks, allowing the team to focus on creativity.

Seamless Communication: The ability to instantly generate and share PDF reports with the editing team streamlines communication and reduces the chances of miscommunication or overlooked notes.

Organized Workflow: Keeps all shoot information in one place, making it easy to track progress and review decisions during post-production. See right away how many takes were shot for each scene and what the client's/director's preferred take was.

Planned development

I heavily rely on your feedback for this 0.1b version. How could I make it even more user friendly? What additional information you think would be great to log that could be of use for your editor? Bearing in mind that I would like to keep the interface as simple as possible so it is still quick and easy to use.

I am also planning to make the design a bit more appealing. At the moment it's very simple as I only focused on the usability of the app.

Download and install

I do know that my target user is an iOS device user so I've written the code that is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. However Apple requires me to create a paid developer account to be able to compile the final app. Therefore for the moment I've compiled an installer (.apk) for Android devices only. It is on the Google PlayStore as an early-access version, so it's not available for the public, however if you join the 'ShootLogger testers' Google Group, then you can download the 'early-access' version of the App for Google Play. You will also become an official tester for the app :)

Support me if you can

I am a hobbyist coder, tried to create a free, easy-to-use, simple user interface for a task that can make logging a little bit cleaner and paperless. The app is free and will always be. By installing this test version you can try it out and give me feedback/recommendation for improvement. I would like to start distributing it through more official channels like the AppStore and Google Playstore. You can donate to the project if you click on the below link, so I can create a paid developer account and upload it to mentioned stores and hopefully release more free tools.

ShootLogger is your go-to tool for ensuring that every take, note, and piece of feedback is captured and communicated effectively, paving the way for a smoother post-production process (or at least to make your editor happy!).

Or if you don't feel like joining any group you can still download the app as an .apk package. You will need to have an 'apk installer' app or Google's native 'Package Installer' installed on your phone and enable 'Install unknown apps' in your settings. Most devices will run a Play Store scan on the app before installing to make sure it's not a malicious app. If you have any questions please use the 'Contact' page and send me a message. Please click on the link to get installer. Once the .apk file is downloaded, open it with 'package installer' which will automatically install the app on your device. Give me a shout if you have any difficulties. Please do not install ShootLogger downloaded from any other links as they might contain malicious code and damage your device.
